Helping a client rebuild confidence and recognise personal strengths during an unexpected career transition.
In the case study below, Sydney career coach Therese Rahme explains how personalised career transition assistance helped an experienced professional rebuild her confidence, communicate her value and prepare for the next stage of her career.
One of my clients, an experienced marketing and fundraising professional, came to me following an unexpected career transition.
Although she had built an impressive career, the experience had affected her confidence and left her uncertain about how to position herself in a competitive employment market.
Our coaching began by taking a step back and considering not only her experience, but also the distinctive value she could offer a future employer. Together, we refined her résumé, strengthened her professional positioning and prepared for upcoming interviews.
Preparation helped her communicate her experience and capabilities with clarity and confidence.
As new opportunities emerged, we worked through behavioural interview questions and presentation-based case studies. This preparation helped her communicate her experience, capabilities and achievements with greater clarity and confidence.
Reconnecting with strengths and successes
As our work progressed, it became clear that rebuilding her confidence involved more than securing another role. She also needed to reconnect with the strengths that had contributed to her success throughout her career.
To support this next stage of her development, we introduced the Gallup CliftonStrengths® assessment. We used the results as a foundation for exploring her natural talents, leadership style and the working environments in which she is most likely to perform at her best.
Our coaching continues with a focus on helping her apply these strengths more intentionally. The goal is not simply to secure her next position, but to build a career that feels authentic, sustainable and aligned with who she is.
Her experience is a valuable reminder that career transitions are not solely about finding another job. They can also provide an opportunity to rediscover your strengths, rebuild your confidence and move forward with greater clarity and purpose.
