When experience is turned into a career opportunity.
In the case study below, career coach Therese Rahme explains how she helped experienced professionals recognise their value, transition from employment to business ownership and create opportunities aligned with their skills, values and vision.
Reaching a career crossroads.
Significant responsibility does not always provide the authority to influence important decisions.
Some careers evolve in unexpected ways. After years of building successful careers within organisations, several of my clients reached a similar crossroads. They were highly respected, trusted to solve complex problems and often became the person colleagues turned to for guidance. Yet despite carrying significant responsibility, they found themselves with limited authority to influence the decisions that mattered most.
As our coaching conversations unfolded, it became clear that they were no longer searching for another promotion. They were seeking greater purpose, autonomy and the opportunity to build something that reflected their own values and vision.
Recognising the value of career experience
Their expertise, leadership and professional reputation provide a strong foundation for business ownership.
Together, we explored what they had developed throughout their careers—not only their technical expertise, but also their leadership capability, professional networks, commercial insight and the reputation they had built over many years. What initially felt like a leap into business ownership gradually became a realistic and achievable next step.
Transitioning from employee to business owner
Coaching helped each client turn their experience into a clear and achievable business opportunity.
Coaching focused on identifying their unique value proposition, clarifying the type of business they wanted to create and developing the confidence to transition from employee to business owner. We also explored the mindset shifts required to move from delivering someone else’s vision to leading their own.
Creating a career with purpose and autonomy
Each client created an opportunity that reflected their strengths, values and ambitions.
For each client, the outcome looked different. Some established consulting businesses, while others developed coaching or professional service practices. What united them was the confidence to create careers that reflected who they were, how they wanted to contribute and the legacy they hoped to build.
Career coaching is not always about finding the next job. Sometimes it is about recognising that your experience, leadership and values have prepared you to create opportunities of your own.
