Morrisby Careers Test | Plan for your future with confidence

morrisby careers test

A Morrisby Career Test helps young people discover their potential and plan their future with confidence.

In this article, Sydney career coach Therese Rahme explains how the Morrisby Career Test can help young people understand their potential and make informed decisions about their education and future careers.

Note: The Morrisby Career Test is often referred to as the Morrisby Profile or Morrisby Careers Assessment.

Students often don’t know which direction is right for them.

Choosing school subjects, deciding on further education or considering a future career can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming.

With so many options available, students may find it difficult to know which direction is right for them.

Our career advisors use the Morrisby Career Test to help young people better understand their abilities, interests, personality, motivations and aspirations before making important education and career decisions.

Combined with personalised coaching, the assessment can give students and their families greater clarity and confidence when planning the next stage of their journey.

What is the Morrisby Career Test?

The Morrisby Test is an established education and career planning tool designed to help young people make informed decisions about their future.

The test considers several important areas, including:

  • Interests: The subjects, activities and areas of work that naturally attract and engage the student.
  • Personality: The personal characteristics and behavioural preferences that may influence how the student approaches learning, work and relationships.
  • Aptitudes: The student’s natural abilities across different areas, helping to identify the types of tasks and challenges that may suit them.
  • Motivations: The factors that may encourage engagement, achievement and satisfaction in education and future employment.
  • Learning preferences: The ways in which the student may prefer to receive, understand and apply information.

Together, these insights are used to provide personalised education and career recommendations. These can help students make more informed choices about school subjects, further education and potential career pathways.

The Morrisby Career Test reduces uncertainty

Young people are often expected to make important decisions about school subjects, tertiary education and career pathways before they have had the opportunity to develop a clear understanding of themselves.

The Morrisby Test helps reduce some of this uncertainty by providing objective insights into a student’s aptitudes, interests, personality and preferences.

Rather than identifying one “perfect” career, the assessment encourages students to consider a range of possibilities that may align with their abilities, interests and aspirations.

It provides a practical starting point for exploring subject choices, education options and potential career pathways with greater confidence.

Who can benefit from a Morrisby Career Test?

The Morrisby Career Test may be particularly helpful for students and young adults at different stages of their education and career planning.

Year 9 and year 10 students

For students in Years 9 and 10, the Morrisby Career Test can provide a valuable starting point for considering future education and career options. It helps students develop greater self-awareness by identifying their interests, abilities, personality and preferences before they make important decisions about their senior school subjects.

With a clearer understanding of themselves and the pathways they may wish to pursue, students can select subjects that support their strengths, interests and potential education or career goals.

Year 11 and year 12 students

For students in Years 11 and 12, the assessment can help clarify the options available after school. This may include university courses, TAFE qualifications, apprenticeships, traineeships and other education, training or employment pathways.

By gaining insight into their abilities, interests and preferences, students can investigate suitable opportunities and approach their next steps with greater confidence and direction.

Young adults seeking career direction

The Morrisby Career Test may also benefit young adults who feel uncertain about further study, training or employment. It can help them better understand their potential, consider career areas they may not have previously explored and identify pathways that align with their individual profile and aspirations.

Parents supporting their child’s decisions

The assessment and personalised coaching session can give parents a clearer understanding of their child’s abilities, interests and preferences. This allows them to provide informed and constructive support while helping their child make decisions that reflect their own strengths, goals and aspirations.

What happens after the test?

Completing the Morrisby Career Test is only the first step. A personalised coaching session helps the student and their family understand the results and apply these insights to education and career decisions.

During the session, we will review what the results reveal about the student’s abilities, interests, personality, motivations and learning preferences. Together, we’ll consider school subjects that complement their strengths and support potential future pathways.

Exploring courses, occupations, industries and career possibilities.

We’ll also examine suitable university courses, TAFE qualifications, apprenticeships and other education or training options. By exploring relevant occupations and industries, students may identify career possibilities they had not previously considered.

The session also gives students and parents an opportunity to ask questions, discuss concerns and clarify the recommendations. We’ll then develop a personalised action plan with practical next steps, which may include researching careers, comparing courses, gaining relevant experience or preparing for upcoming decisions.

Following the assessment and coaching session, students and their families will have a clearer understanding of the student’s strengths, interests and aptitudes, along with greater confidence when considering school subjects, further education and potential career directions. Our aim is to provide the clarity, guidance and practical plan needed to approach the future with confidence.

Evidence-based career tests with personalised coaching

Choosing a career direction is one of the most significant decisions a young person will make, but it does not need to be made without guidance.

Our career advisors and coaches combine an evidence-based career assessment with personalised coaching to help students understand themselves before making important choices about their education and future.

Our role is not to tell students what they should become. It is to help them understand their potential, consider suitable possibilities and identify the pathways in which they are most likely to thrive.

Are you ready to start planning for your future?

Planning your future does not begin with choosing a course or job. It begins with understanding yourself.

If you’re ready to explore your abilities, recognise your interests and consider future possibilities with greater confidence, we’d be delighted to support you.

Meaningful careers begin with understanding the person, not simply choosing the next course or job.
