Getting Started
Career coaching is a personalised process that helps you better understand yourself, explore career possibilities and make informed decisions about your future.
Whether you’re starting your career, considering a career change, returning to work, preparing for leadership or simply feeling uncertain about your next step, career coaching provides the opportunity to reflect, gain clarity and develop a practical plan.
At Sydney Career Coaching, we combine professional coaching with evidence-based career and leadership assessments where appropriate, helping you understand your strengths, interests, values and motivations so you can move forward with greater confidence and purpose.
Career coaching is for anyone who wants greater clarity, confidence or direction in their working life.
You may be considering a career change, preparing for a leadership role, returning to work after a break, experiencing burnout or simply feeling unsure about your next step.
Many people come to coaching believing they need help finding another job. More often, they discover they need the opportunity to better understand themselves before making an important career decision.
If you’re asking questions about your future, career coaching can help you explore your options, reconnect with your strengths and make informed decisions that align with your goals, values and aspirations.
Your first coaching session is about understanding you.
We’ll discuss your career journey, your current situation, what has brought you to coaching and what you hope to achieve.
Together, we’ll explore your strengths, interests, values and any challenges or opportunities you’re currently facing.
If you’ve completed a career or leadership assessment, we’ll begin interpreting the results and discussing what they mean for your career or professional development.
By the end of the session, you’ll have greater clarity about your situation and a practical understanding of the next steps in your coaching journey.
The number of coaching sessions you may need depends on your goals.
Some people seek support with a specific issue and only require one or two sessions. Others benefit from a structured coaching program that provides ongoing guidance as they work towards their career or leadership goals.
Following our initial discussion, we’ll recommend an approach that best suits your individual needs.
Our focus is always on providing the right level of support to help you achieve meaningful and lasting outcomes.
No.
Career assessments are valuable tools, but they aren’t appropriate or necessary for everyone.
During our initial conversation, we’ll discuss your goals and determine whether a career or leadership assessment would add value to your coaching experience.
If an assessment is recommended, it will be selected because it supports your individual circumstances and objectives, not because we believe everyone should complete one.
The coaching conversation will always remain at the centre of the process.
Yes. We work with clients both in person and online via Zoom.
Online coaching offers the same personalised support and provides the flexibility to work with clients throughout Australia and internationally.
Whether you meet with us face-to-face or online, our coaching approach remains the same. We support you to gain clarity, build confidence and develop practical strategies that help you move forward.
Sydney Career Coaching is based in Mosman on Sydney’s Lower North Shore.
We offer face-to-face coaching sessions by appointment, as well as online coaching via Zoom for clients who prefer the flexibility of meeting remotely or who live outside Sydney.
Whether you’re based locally, interstate or overseas, we’re committed to providing a supportive and personalised coaching experience.
Career Change & Career Development
Career change doesn’t begin with searching job advertisements. It begins with understanding yourself.
Before exploring new industries or roles, it’s important to understand your strengths, interests, values, motivations and transferable skills. This creates a strong foundation for making informed career decisions rather than simply moving from one job to another.
Together, we’ll explore what has brought you to this point, what you want from the next stage of your career and the opportunities that best align with who you are today.
Career change isn’t simply about finding another job. It’s about creating a career that reflects your strengths, values and aspirations.
Absolutely.
Returning to work after a career break can bring a mix of excitement, uncertainty and self-doubt. Whether you’ve taken time away to raise a family, care for a loved one, study or attend to personal circumstances, it’s natural to wonder how your experience fits into today’s job market.
Career coaching helps you reconnect with your professional strengths, recognise the valuable skills you’ve developed throughout your career and identify practical strategies for returning to work with confidence.
Together, we’ll explore opportunities that align with your current priorities, lifestyle and career goals, helping you move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Yes.
Many people come to career coaching believing they need help finding another job. Often, the real challenge is rebuilding confidence and reconnecting with their professional identity.
This can happen after taking time away from work, migrating to Australia, experiencing burnout, living with a disability, being made redundant or spending many years in a role that no longer reflects who you are.
Career coaching provides a supportive space to reflect, recognise your strengths, identify your transferable skills and rediscover the value you bring.
Before we explore career opportunities, we focus on rebuilding confidence and helping you reconnect with your professional identity.
When you believe in the value you bring, you can make career decisions with greater confidence and purpose.
Yes.
Burnout can leave you feeling physically and emotionally exhausted, disconnected from your work and uncertain about your future.
Many people assume the answer is simply to find another job. In reality, it’s important to first understand what has contributed to the burnout and what needs to change.
Career coaching provides the opportunity to reflect on your work, values, strengths and the factors that may be affecting your wellbeing.
Together, we’ll explore practical strategies that support healthier career decisions and help you create a working life that is both meaningful and sustainable.
Where appropriate, we may also encourage you to seek support from a suitably qualified health professional alongside your coaching journey.
Yes.
Many internationally qualified professionals face challenges when entering the Australian job market.
You may be adapting to a different recruitment process, workplace culture or communication style while also wondering how your qualifications and experience will be recognised.
Career coaching helps you identify your transferable skills, strengthen your resume and LinkedIn profile, prepare for interviews and develop practical strategies for building your career in Australia.
Most importantly, we help you recognise the value you already bring and build the confidence to present your experience in a way that resonates with Australian employers.
Absolutely.
Many experienced professionals begin to question their employability as they get older, particularly after redundancy, organisational change or an extended job search.
The reality is that experience, judgement, resilience and professional maturity remain highly valuable.
Career coaching helps you recognise the strengths you’ve developed throughout your career, identify opportunities where your experience is valued and position yourself confidently in today’s employment market.
Age doesn’t define your potential. Your experience, adaptability and willingness to continue learning are often your greatest strengths.
Together, we’ll help you focus on the value you bring and develop a strategy that supports the next stage of your career with confidence.
Career & Leadership Assessments
The right assessment depends on your goals.
If you’re looking for greater career direction, we may recommend a Career Clarity Assessment.
Students exploring education and career pathways may benefit from the Morrisby Assessment.
Professionals wanting to better understand and develop their strengths may benefit from CliftonStrengths.
Leaders and executives seeking deeper insight into their leadership capabilities may be better suited to the Genos Emotional Intelligence Assessment or Hogan Leadership Assessment.
If you’re unsure which assessment is right for you, we’ll help you choose the one that best supports your career or leadership development.
Both assessments support leadership development, but they focus on different aspects of leadership.
The Hogan Leadership Assessment explores personality, leadership style, motivations and behavioural patterns, including how leaders may respond under pressure. It provides valuable insight into how these patterns influence leadership effectiveness and decision-making.
The Genos Emotional Intelligence Assessment focuses on the emotional and interpersonal behaviours that influence communication, relationships, collaboration and leadership effectiveness.
Both assessments are evidence-based and highly respected. During our initial discussion, we’ll recommend the assessment that best aligns with your leadership goals and development needs.
A 360 assessment gathers confidential feedback from the people you work with, including managers, colleagues, peers and direct reports.
It provides valuable insight into how others experience your leadership and allows this feedback to be compared with your own perceptions.
This broader perspective can highlight strengths, reveal blind spots and identify opportunities for professional growth.
When combined with coaching, a 360 assessment becomes a powerful leadership development tool, helping you translate feedback into practical strategies for improving your leadership effectiveness.
CliftonStrengths is a strengths-based assessment developed by Gallup that identifies your natural talents and provides a framework for developing them into strengths.
Rather than focusing on fixing weaknesses, CliftonStrengths helps you understand what you naturally do well and how you can apply those strengths more intentionally in your career, leadership and everyday work.
Combined with coaching, the assessment helps you better understand your unique contribution, improve your confidence and maximise your potential by building on what already comes naturally.
Many people know they want something to change but aren’t sure what that change should be.
A Career Clarity Assessment provides the opportunity to better understand your interests, work preferences, values, motivations and strengths before making important career decisions.
Rather than focusing on one “perfect” job, the assessment helps identify a range of career possibilities that align with who you are.
Combined with personalised coaching, it provides the insight and confidence needed to make informed decisions about your future.
At Sydney Career Coaching, we don’t use assessments to label people or tell them what they should do. We use them to create meaningful conversations.
Assessments provide valuable insights into your strengths, interests, values, motivations, leadership style or emotional intelligence, depending on your goals.
The real value comes from understanding what those insights mean for you and how you can apply them in practical ways.
An assessment provides information. Coaching helps transform that information into self-awareness, confidence and meaningful action.
That’s why every assessment is combined with a personalised coaching debrief tailored to your individual needs.
Students & Young People
The Morrisby Assessment is designed for secondary school students and young adults who are beginning to make important decisions about their education and future careers.
It is particularly valuable for students in Years 10, 11 and 12 who are choosing subjects, considering university, TAFE or apprenticeship pathways, or simply wanting greater confidence about what comes next.
The assessment provides valuable insights into a student’s interests, abilities, personality and aspirations, helping them make informed decisions about their future.
Yes.
Parents play an important role in supporting young people as they make decisions about subjects, further education and future careers.
Where appropriate, parents are welcome to attend part or all of the coaching session. This allows everyone to develop a shared understanding of the assessment results, discuss possible pathways and ask questions together.
Our goal is to support both the student and their family in making informed decisions about the future.
Absolutely.
Choosing school subjects is often the first significant career decision a young person makes.
Together, we’ll explore the student’s interests, strengths, aspirations and future goals before discussing subject choices that support a range of education and career pathways.
Rather than focusing only on immediate decisions, we aim to keep future opportunities open wherever possible while helping students choose subjects with greater confidence.
Yes.
Many young people feel uncertain about their future, and that’s completely normal.
Very few students have a clear career direction while they’re still at school.
Our role isn’t to tell students what they should become. It is to help them better understand themselves, explore possibilities and build the confidence to make informed decisions about their future.
Career planning is a journey. For many young people, the most valuable outcome is not having all the answers, but developing the confidence and self-awareness to make thoughtful decisions as new opportunities arise.
No.
In fact, many students complete the Morrisby Assessment because they have no clear idea what career they want to pursue.
The assessment is designed to explore a student’s interests, abilities, personality and motivations, providing a range of possible education and career pathways rather than one “perfect” answer.
The coaching session then helps students interpret the results, consider different possibilities and identify practical next steps.
Many families find this process reduces uncertainty and provides clearer direction for future planning.
No.
No assessment can predict the perfect career.
Instead, the Morrisby Assessment provides valuable information about your child’s strengths, interests, abilities and preferences, highlighting a range of careers and education pathways that may be worth considering.
The real value comes from the coaching conversation that follows, during which we discuss the results, answer questions and help students make informed decisions about the opportunities that best suit them.
Our aim is to provide clarity, not to make the decision for them.
