A Hogan Assessment helps you understand yourself and lead with greater confidence.
In this article, Sydney career coach Therese Rahme explains how Hogan Personality and Leadership Assessments can help you better understand yourself, recognise how you respond under pressure and lead with greater confidence.
What is a Hogan Leadership Assessment?
A Hogan Leadership Assessment helps you understand the personality traits, behavioural patterns and values that shape how you work and lead.
It looks at how you are likely to behave when things are going well, what may happen when you are under pressure and what motivates you in your career. These insights can help you recognise your strengths, understand how others may experience your leadership and identify behaviours that could limit your effectiveness.
I use Hogan Assessments alongside personalised leadership coaching. I will help you make sense of your results and turn them into practical strategies you can use in your day-to-day role.
How Hogan Assessments help my clients
Your leadership style influences how you communicate, make decisions, manage relationships and respond to challenges.
Most of us have behaviours that contribute to our success, as well as patterns that can become more noticeable when we are stressed, tired or facing uncertainty. Because these reactions can be automatic, we may not always recognise the effect they have on the people around us.
A Hogan Leadership Assessment can help you:
- Better understand your leadership style
- Recognise the strengths you bring to your role
- Identify behaviours that may emerge under pressure
- Understand what triggers these responses
- Make more considered decisions during challenging situations
- Communicate and manage workplace relationships more effectively
The aim is not to focus on your weaknesses or label your personality. It is to give you a clearer understanding of yourself so you can make more intentional choices about how you lead.
What can you gain from a Hogan Leadership Assessment?
Following your coaching debrief, you will have:
- Greater self-awareness as a leader: Develop a deeper understanding of your personality, preferred ways of working and the behaviours that shape how others experience your leadership.
- A clearer understanding of your leadership strengths: Identify the qualities that contribute to your effectiveness and learn how to use these strengths more intentionally.
- Insight into how you may respond under pressure: Understand the behavioural patterns that may emerge when you are stressed, tired, uncertain or managing increased responsibility.
- A better understanding of your values and motivations: Recognise what drives and energises you, along with the roles, workplace cultures and environments in which you are most likely to thrive.
- Practical ways to manage potential derailers: Learn to recognise your triggers and early warning signs so you can respond more thoughtfully before unhelpful behaviours affect your decisions or relationships.
- Greater confidence in your leadership decisions: Approach challenges, conversations and important decisions with greater clarity and intention.
- A personalised development plan: Leave with clear priorities and practical actions tailored to your role, circumstances and leadership goals.
Your Hogan 360 Assessment Results
While Hogan’s personality assessments help you understand the characteristics and motivations behind your behaviour, the Hogan 360 Assessment reveals how other people experience your leadership.
It gathers confidential feedback from people you work with, which may include your manager, colleagues and direct reports. This allows you to compare your perception of your leadership with the way others experience it.
Understand your leadership impact.
The feedback may closely align with your own perspective, or it may reveal strengths you have overlooked and behaviours that are having a different impact than you intended.
When combined with Hogan’s personality assessments, the Hogan 360 provides a more complete understanding of your leadership style, motivations and impact on others. During your coaching debrief, I will help you interpret the feedback and identify practical areas for development.
Who can benefit from a Hogan Leadership Assessment?
A Hogan Assessment can be valuable whether you are an executive or senior leader, a manager or team leader, an emerging leader, a high-potential employee or a professional preparing to move into a more senior role.
It can also support organisations undertaking succession planning or investing in leadership development.
You do not need to be experiencing a problem to benefit from an assessment. You may simply want to understand yourself better, build on your strengths and become a more confident and effective leader.
What happens after the assessment?
Once you have completed the assessment, we will work through your Hogan reports during a personalised coaching debrief. Together, we will look at:
- The strengths you bring to your leadership role
- Your values, motivations and preferred ways of working
- Behavioural patterns that may emerge under pressure
- Situations that could trigger less helpful responses
- How your behaviour may affect your decisions and workplace relationships
You will have time to ask questions and discuss how the findings relate to your current role and workplace experiences.
Turning your results into practical action
By the end of your debrief, you will have a clearer understanding of yourself as a leader and how others may experience your behaviour. We will also develop practical strategies to help you manage pressure, make more considered decisions and use your strengths more intentionally.
You will leave with clear development priorities and a personalised plan to support your ongoing growth as a leader.
Interpreting your Hogan Assessment results
How the report relates to your role and workplace challenges.
Your Hogan Assessment results contain a great deal of valuable information, but the report alone may not explain how those findings relate to your role, workplace relationships and current challenges. This is where I can help.
I will guide you through your results, explain how the different areas connect and help you decide where to focus your development. My approach is practical, supportive and tailored to your individual needs.
Together, we will identify what is already working well, where change could be valuable and the practical steps you can take to become a more confident and effective leader.
Are you ready to invest in your leadership success?
I combine accredited Hogan Assessment interpretation with personalised leadership coaching to help you turn insight into meaningful action.
My role goes beyond explaining your results. I will help you use these insights to communicate more effectively, manage pressure, strengthen workplace relationships and lead with greater confidence and intention.
You do not need to have all the answers to be an effective leader. A willingness to understand yourself, listen to feedback and continue developing can make a meaningful difference.
If you would like to better understand your leadership style, recognise how you respond under pressure and become more intentional in the way you lead, I would be delighted to support you.
