What is Genos Emotional Intelligence?
In this article, Sydney Career Coach Therese Rahme explains how a Genos 360 Assessment can help you develop greater self-awareness and lead with more impact.
Genos Emotional Intelligence (Genos EI) is a workplace-focused model that looks at how effectively we understand and manage emotions, both our own and those of the people around us.
It focuses on the everyday behaviours that influence how we communicate, make decisions, respond under pressure and build relationships at work. These behaviours can have a significant impact on how others experience our leadership.
Technical knowledge and experience may help you move into a leadership role, but emotional intelligence often determines how effectively you lead once you’re there.
How we use the Genos Assessments with our clients.
We use Genos Emotional Intelligence Assessments to help you understand the behaviours shaping your leadership style and workplace relationships.
We then work through your results with you in a personalised coaching session, turning those insights into practical strategies you can use in your day-to-day role.
Strengthen your leadership with emotional intelligence
Leadership is not only about making good decisions. It is also about how you communicate those decisions, respond to challenges and make the people around you feel.
Every conversation and interaction contributes to the experience others have of your leadership.
When you develop your emotional intelligence, you are better equipped to:
- Build trust and stronger professional relationships
- Communicate clearly and confidently
- Manage your reactions during difficult situations
- Navigate challenging conversations
- Understand and respond to the needs of others
- Create an environment where people can perform at their best
A Genos assessment helps you recognise the emotionally intelligent behaviours you already demonstrate and identify areas you may want to strengthen. It gives you practical, meaningful information that can help you become more intentional in the way you communicate, respond and lead.
What does the Genos Emotional Intelligence Assessment measure?
The Genos Emotional Intelligence Assessment is an evidence-based assessment designed specifically for the workplace.
Rather than measuring your personality or labelling you as emotionally intelligent or not, it looks at how frequently you demonstrate emotionally intelligent workplace behaviours.
The assessment covers six key areas:
- Self-awareness: How well you recognise and understand your own emotions
- Awareness of others: How effectively you notice and understand how others are feeling
- Authenticity: How openly and appropriately you express yourself
- Emotional reasoning: How well you consider emotional information when making decisions
- Self-management: How effectively you manage your emotions and behaviour
- Positive influence: How well you support, motivate and positively influence others
Together, these areas provide a clearer picture of how your emotional intelligence may be influencing your leadership, communication and workplace performance.
Genos 360 Assessments
The Genos 360 Assessment combines your own assessment with confidential feedback from people who work with you. This may include your manager, colleagues and direct reports.
It allows you to compare how you see your leadership behaviours with how other people experience them.
Sometimes these perspectives are closely aligned. At other times, the feedback can reveal strengths you may not recognise in yourself or behaviours that are having a different impact than you intended.
We will help you work through this feedback constructively, understand what it means and decide where to focus your development.
Who can benefit from a Genos assessment?
A Genos Emotional Intelligence Assessment can be valuable for:
- Executives and senior leaders
- Managers and team leaders
- Emerging leaders preparing for greater responsibility
- Professionals who want to improve their communication and influence
- Organisations investing in leadership development
- Teams wanting to strengthen collaboration and workplace relationships
You do not need to be experiencing a leadership problem to benefit. Many people complete the assessment because they want a better understanding of themselves and would like to become more confident, thoughtful and effective leaders.
What happens after the assessment?
Completing the assessment is just the first step. The real value comes from understanding your results and learning how to apply them.
During your personalised coaching debrief, we will:
- Talk through your emotional intelligence profile
- Identify your existing leadership strengths
- Look at areas you may want to develop
- Discuss situations you are currently facing at work
- Develop practical strategies to improve your communication and relationships
- Create a personalised leadership development plan
You will have the opportunity to ask questions, reflect on your results and consider how your behaviours may be affecting the people around you. We will help you turn the assessment findings into practical actions that feel relevant and achievable.
What you can gain from a Genos 360 Assessment?
After your coaching session, you will have:
- Greater self-awareness as a leader
- A clearer understanding of how other people may experience your behaviour
- Practical strategies for strengthening your emotional intelligence
- More confidence when communicating and leading others
- A personalised plan to guide your ongoing development
An assessment can give you valuable information, but information alone does not always lead to change. This is where our leadership coaches can assist.
Interpreting your Genos 360 results
Understanding your results
We help you interpret your results in the context of your role, relationships and current workplace challenges. Our approach is practical, supportive and tailored to you. We will help you understand what is working well, where change could be valuable and how to approach that change in a realistic way.
Our aim is to help you build stronger relationships, communicate with greater confidence and lead in a way that encourages trust, engagement and performance.
Are you ready to strengthen your leadership?
You do not need to have all the answers to be an effective leader. A willingness to understand yourself, listen to feedback and continue developing can make a meaningful difference.
If you would like to strengthen your emotional intelligence and better understand the impact you have on others, I would be delighted to support you.
